چکیده
A medium is described, which is selective for the haemophilus genus and also distinguishes between the species Haemophilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenzae isolated in primary culture from clinical material.

Differentiation of Haemophilus spp. in Respiratory isolate cultures by an indole spot test.
Indole spot tests using isolated, nonhemolytic colonies of Haemophilus species were positive for 90 of 151 (60%) respiratory isolates of Haemophilus influenzae, whereas 67 to 72 (93%) isolates of H. influenzae from cerebrospinal fluid and blood specimens were indole positive. Only 4 of 117 (3%) Haemophilus parainfluenzae isolates were positive for indole spot tests. Thus, indole-positive, nonhe...
متن کاملDistribution of biotypes of Haemophilus influenzae and H parainfluenzae in patients with cystic fibrosis.
One hundred and eighty eight isolates of Haemophilus influenzae and 187 isolates of H parainfluenzae from patients with cystic fibrosis, patients with respiratory infections but without cystic fibrosis, and patients with neither cystic fibrosis nor respiratory infections were biotyped. Biotype I of H influenzae were found significantly more often in patients with cystic fibrosis compared with t...
متن کاملHaemophilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenza in Cystic Fibrosis: 15 Years Experience
Results: 1538 isolates from respiratory specimens of 349 CF patients over 15 years were investigated. Annual prevalence increased significantly for both bacteria, being more pronounced for H. parainfluenzae. Average percentage of resistant cultures increased by 46% (H. Influenzae) and 61% (H. Parainfluenzae). For H. influenzae, resistance to ampicillin was 34.4%, co-trimoxazole 21.4%. For H. pa...
متن کاملChanges in the prevalence and biofilm formation of Haemophilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenzae from the respiratory microbiota of patients with sarcoidosis
BACKGROUND Healthy condition and chronic diseases may be associated with microbiota composition and its properties. The prevalence of respiratory haemophili with respect to their phenotypes including the ability to biofilm formation in patients with sarcoidosis was assayed. METHODS Nasopharynx and sputum specimens were taken in 31 patients with sarcoidosis (average age 42.6 ± 13), and nasopha...
متن کاملClinical Pharmacology of Cefotaxime in Neonates and Infants: Effects and Pharmacokinetics
Cefotaxime is a bactericidal "third generation" cephalosporin has a broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive microorganisms and exceptional activity against most gram-negative microorganisms. Cefotaxime is widely considered to be the antibiotic of choice for the management of neonatal meningitis and sepsis caused by gram-negative bacteria. Cefotaxime is active against Neisseria meningitis,...
